What we accept
-
Retired French and American oak barrels from wineries and cellar doors.
-
225 L barrique and 300 L hogshead sizes.
-
First used within the last six years.
-
Sound and dry.
-
Twenty or more barrels in one lot.
-
Photos and a count before we quote.
The first-use year matters. A barrel kept in storage for years does not become newer when it is emptied. If you are unsure of some dates, list those barrels as a separate group. Don't mix broken or unknown barrels into a good lot.
This page is for wineries with a lot of barrels to clear.
Count and photograph the barrels
A winery barrel clearance starts with an accurate count. List only the barrels that are going, not those staying in production. Note the size, oak type and first-use year for each group, such as barrique 225L and hogshead 300L.
Photograph the whole lot, plus the sides, ends, hoops and any damage on a few barrels. Include first-use markings where you can read them. Describe ex wine barrels as they stand: loose, on pallets or in racks, and say whether the racks are staying. Don't move or restack barrels just for a photo.
Booking the collection
Tell us the winery location, when you want them gone, what loading equipment you have and how a truck gets in. Tell us who will set aside the barrels and whether the count is final. If the quantity, age or condition changes, let us know before collection.
See material recovery programmes and materials we work with for other business materials. Empty IBCs and 200 L drums need their own count and details.
